Holla from the Other Side
Oh my everything.
We’re married.
No, seriously. Adam and I got married. Remember, the planning? The sparkles? The tumbly who got tied up in knots of butterflies? The hunting for ladders and mailboxes and mason jars? The dress? The reckless spending of hard-earned cash at Michael’s? The hope that it would be worth it all?
It all added up to one beautiful, “abundantly sunshiney” day in South Orange County, where I giggled with my girls and walked with my dad and looked into the eyes and held the hands of the love of my life. When I came down the aisle and everyone stood up, I had this terrifying realization: “I’m the BRIDE! Ah!” Then I saw my girls beaming, Justin grinning and all the groomsmen looking pretty stoked about it. And Adam’s face, holding all the love and strength and devotion that I’ve longed for from a man ever since I first realized that boys could be more than tree-climbing, roller-hockey playing pals.
My dad kissed my cheek and gave me to “this man”, my almost-husband. Adam held my hands tightly, as though holding us both up before God and all our loved ones, declaring his love for me with every tiny squeeze. Justin told our stories, made us laugh and reminded us of what marriage is and the importance of it. We prayed with our entire wedding party and loved ones, all holding out their hands in blessing and prayer, starting our life together on a foundation of goodness and truth.
And then, just like that, we were Mr. and Mrs. Adam Nichols. Free to take long trips together and spend every waking moment thinking the other is hilarious and adorable. Free to make plans and dream big dreams and look to the future together. Free to build a life based on trust and love and faith in a fantastic and mighty God who rejoices in His people.
We’re married, Internet. I’m a Nichols now, although calling me Dani Lin is still accepted and appreciated, for the record. 🙂 But Mrs. Nichols works too. 😉
Shoutout to Will Parris, our incredibly fun and talented photographer, for these pics. See more HERE.
