I want to see Mountains again, Gandalf! Mountains!
We did see mountains this weekend, with our friends Rocky and Jennifer (couple name = “jocky”) who are getting married this summer and thus in dire need of a break.
I’m always amazed at how refreshing it is to get away, and at the same time, how much I love home when I come back. We hiked and played in the sparse snow, the boys proved their mountain-man prowess by leaping up large rocks and crossing wide and very cold streams, balanced only on rotting tree trunks and wobbly boulders. Us girls were content to stay dry and hike the less life-threatening terrain. That evening, the men-folk grilled great steaks and we played a heated game of Battle of the Sexes by a roaring fire, drank hot cocoa and snuggled next to our honeys.
We woke late to a winter wonderland, more snow falling every minute, and decided to be lazy and warm – so spent all afternoon conquering the World. Boys love Risk, with its strategy and ample opportunities for explosion noises and war jokes. Girls love Risk because they love getting high-fives from their men on lucky rolls and every now and then surprising themselves and everybody else with their brilliant attacks and competitive spirits.
It was good to see mountains again.
